THE TASK

We were asked to design and develop a postcard make-and-order application for the young campers' families. It should allow people who permitted access to the internal camp gallery, such as parents and grandparents, to use the photos, make postcards, and send to the campers.

THE PERSONA

A. The Caring Grandfather:

Current Experience: He finds printing out photos from the gallery and sending them himself is a lot of work.

Digital Capacity: He is not tech-savvy. He needs the interface that is self-explanatory. He may not be familiar with the meanings and functions of many icons. He needs the user flow of making and sending a postcard to be simple and straightforward. Too many features for the first version may overwhelm him.

Emotional Attachment: He went to the camp when he was a young boy, then he sent his kids to the same camp, and now it's his grandchildren's turn. He enjoys receiving and sharing printed photos with friends and family, which is how he keeps in touch with them. Being able to send the postcards to multiple people at once would be as familiar to him as drop the cards into a mailbox.

B. The Loving Mother:

Current Experience: She wants more than the one-way communication that she can only view the photos to keep up-to-date with her son while he's in the camp. She wants to be able to let her son know that his parent(s) is (are) thinking of him.

Digital Capacity: She's the sync-everything chic mom who works from screen to screen. She tried one of those apps that let her print out her Instagram photos and makes them into an album or as postcards and send to her families. She's been wondering that it would be amazing to have those functions in the camp gallery system.

Emotional Attachment: She had a wonderful time and made lots of friends at the camp when she was a little girl. But she still remembers the care packages and personal letters her parents sent to her made her at ease when she missed home. She wants to be there for her son, too. She also wants to keep her parents in the loop of how her son is doing, because she knew they care about their grandchild very much and want to see the family tradition is carried on.
